  • Working as a Temp-------Again

I have picked up a temp job for the Lansing School District.  I have also been busy working on some stitching projects.

At first the job was 40 hours but two weeks ago it was cut to 20 because of the school district budget crunch.  And, I have almost cleaned up the mess left by the previous worker that held this postion.  I have been approached by the person who is supervising me about applying for the job once they post it to the public.  However, its still not posted and they need to figure out how and what they want in the posting.  I am hoping that things work out for me.

Now as for stitching I have been working on several long big projects.  IN the stitching world they are termed BAPS.  This stands for Big A$$ Projects.  I have 3 going now and need to figure out a rotation schedule for them.  I have also been indulging my love of dyeing fabric for cross stitch fabric.  I love to play with the colors and see how the fabric turns out with the dye.  I am trying to sell them if only enough to keep me in fabric and threads.  I really have enough patterns to keep me going for quite a while and there are lots of designers who place free patterns on the web for stitchers to try.  This is the way designers can and do call attention to their designs.

  • A man of Destiny or a Man Destined

Today was a day that I would hardly ever forget.  Obama's taking the oath of office yes I will admit that it brought tears to my eyes and as he finished the oath I literally had goosebumps and the shivers.  Why?  Well because I realized that this simple man who deffinately loves his wife and daughters is what we as a country needed.  A man with a foot in two of the cultures of this country who better to bring everyone together.  Who better to inspire and lead many who up until now only knew despair.  I for one embrace the change.  I have been unemployed for almost a year now and with no prospects on the horizon I know its time to change.  Nothing can be accomplished overnight since we as a country didn't get into this mess overnight.

No it took many many months maybe years for the greedy in the high positions to cripple this country's economy.  We need someone to take charge and make sure that these greedy CEO's and other leaders do not do anything more to ruin our economy.  Who better to rebuild our standing in the eyes of the world.  Someone who has tremendous belief in himself and in all of us to do what is needed to do.  It is evident as I hear him talk that he needs the support and the ability that we all possess to believe in ourselves and get to work to make things better.

Its a day that not only belongs to the African American culture but to all of us.  We are people first, a nation second and cultures third.  It is said that when things are at their worst one steps forward at the right time at the right place to place his mark on the world.  That time for us is now.  The man has stepped forward and shouldered the burden.  So with that I again pose the question a man of destiny or a man destined.

  • 2009

2008 was not the best year in my life nor will it be remembered as the happest year in my life.  Loosing the job that I really liked with a boss that I really liked was the worst.  I stayed unemployed for 9 months and even now I am only working a short temp job.

Hubby is still uenmployed although he has a lead on a job cleaning offices at night for part time.  Life here is miserable.  Unemployment in Michigan is high especially with the GM Plants here shutting down until Feb. and then some of the workers will be laid off permantely.  One plant is only going to work day shift come Feb. completely eliminating other shifts.  How many people work per shift I do not know but our unemployment is at any all time high of 9. something per cent.  I have been told at prior interviews that the company received as many as 400 resumes for one position.

So 2009 is one day old and I am anticipating that this year must be better than the prior one.  I have some goals in mind and here they are:

    1.  Try and keep the temp job permantely.  The lady I am temping for moved to a secretarial job at one of the local high schools.  By the way the temp job is for the local school district in the HR department.  My degree is in HRM.

    2.  Get along with my hubby better than we have been doing or get divorced not sure which would be the best currently.  I'd prefer most likely not to divorce if at all possible at least I think so.

    3.  Have more patience with my daughter who is sufferening from her mental illness.  At least try to understand what she is going through and try and understand where she is coming from.

    4.  Do more of my cross stitching for stress reduction whenever possible.

    5.  Be a better person to everyone.

    6.  Continue to aid, comfort and love my grandson who is learning disabled with austic tendancies.  (this is the easiest one so not on top of the list).

    7.  Continue on with my weight loss and doing 5K walks when ever they are offered.  Right now Michigan weather is not conducive to outside walking so I am going to work with my hand weights and shovel snow for excercise.  So far the snow shoveling is winning out as the most exercise I have been getting.

Now these are not resolutions, since I do not believe in them, but goals for 2009.  Goals seem to be easier to maintain and make than so called resolution.
